Just thought this was an interesting tidbit from a NY Times article today (No End in Sight was the title.)
In Ashdod on Tuesday, residents were coming to terms with the new bombardment from Gaza. Shops were open but schools were closed as the authorities extended a school holiday, and most people were staying off the streets. The attacks were unpredictable but people appeared to remain disciplined and were listening to the sporadic early warning sirens. Children gathered around the scene of Monday’s rocket attack, still a novelty in Ashdod, and tried to collect items of shrapnel.
Typical Israeli children. I can just hear the conversation. "Hey, look what I found!" "Yeah, but I found more than you!" "Children, stop playing with the pieces of bomb and come inside for supper."

I could see my boys doing that. But my daughter and I would be cowering in a corner.
May they get rid of all these rockets soon and properly.

Yeah- I could see my neighbor's boys doing it also- but it's funny, from an Israeli perspective. I mean- when people from overseas see that comment, they would probably say, "The children play with bombs? It's a war zone out there!", and other such comments.
oysh, that's crazy!
In a way I like picturing that, cause then it makes it seem less scary, and more like something you can handle.
Babysitter- that's how I see it. Something like, at least the IDF are out there, trying to save lives, and for the meantime, it's a curio object for the kiddies.
